Third variant boosts
Rexton range
KOREAN brand SsangYong has expanded its 4x4 line-up with the addition of a new Rexton W model.
The newcomer, the third variant in the Rexton range, uses a body on frame construction for maximum strength - the accepted approach for a ‘proper' off-roader.
It is powered by SsangYong's own 2.0 litre turbo charged diesel engine delivering 155PS and is designed to provide low end torque, regardless of the conditions.
There's the choice of a 6-speed manual transmission or the 5-speed Mercedes-Benz T-Tronic automatic.
For off-road work the driver can select low range which also splits the torque equally between front and rear axles for all round traction.
And with a three-tonne towing capability, the Rexton W can also handle a caravan, double horsebox or trailer.
Inside, the cabin has been refreshed with aluminium-effect and chrome finishes along with soft-touch materials.
There are seven seats - the rear pair stowing beneath the boot floor - and standard kit includes stuff like cruise control, air-con, leatherv steering wheel and CD radio with iPod and Bluetooth connectivity.
Higher spec EX models also get an electrically operated memory driver's seat, leather upholstery, privacy glass, sunroof and rear parking sensors.
Prices are from £21,995 for the 2.0 SX model rising to £25,995 for the EX automatic, and there's also a five-year warranty.
