THE most usable McLaren to date is how the racing brand describes the first model in its new Sports Series, the 570S Coupe.

The new car for both road and track joins the Super Series and Ultimate Series to complete the three tier McLaren range being shown together for the first time at the New York Auto Show this week.

And we're talking thunderous performance with this car, powered by a twin turbo V8 engine delivering a massive 562bhp.

Its headline figures are 0-62 in 3.2 seconds and from standstill to 124mph in just 9.5 seconds. Top speed is 204mph.

A lightweight construction affords a class leading power-to-weight ratio of 434PS per tonne and the supermac retains the capability to return a potential 25.5 miles per gallon.

The coupe is the first bodystyle to highlight the latest McLaren ‘shrinkwrapped' design, featuring details like rear flying buttresses that increase downforce, and complex door tendons that direct extra air to cool the mid-mounted engine.

Power is delivered through a seven-speed auto transmission, and transferred to the road through the rear wheels, and carbon ceramic brakes are standard along with forged alloy wheels and P Zero Corsa tyres from Pirelli.

The Sports Series has its own newly-developed suspension system to maximise both driver engagement and refinement on both road and track.

It uses independent adaptive dampers with front and rear anti-rollbars - distinct from the Super Series - and dual wishbones, with the set up controlled by Normal, Sport and Track handling settings.

The cabin of the 570S has been designed around the driver and offers more space than any previous McLaren.

As standard, the sports seats are leather upholstered - racing seats are optional - while the dashboard and steering wheel are also all leather trimmed, and there's also more usable space than in any McLaren model to date.

It adds an extra 150 litres of storage in the front luggage bay.

Kit includes a new TFT digital instrument cluster that changes configuration according to driving mode, a seven-inch touchscreen with integrated climate control, Bluetooth and DAB digital / satellite radio.
