TOYOTA is turning up the heat in the company car market with its all-new Avensis which is low on emissions and high on equipment.

Priced from £17,765 for the saloon and £18,945 for an estate the new models cost little more than the current line up which was launched some seven years ago.

Built in Britain at the Toyota factory at Burnaston in Derbyshire, the fourth generation Avensis will be arriving in the summer and will feature new 1.6 and 2.0-litre diesel engines as well as 1.8-litre petrol.

All meet the latest emission standards with the 1.6 diesel models leading the way. Thise are priced from £18,850 and have an official fuel return of 68.9mpg with a CO2 rating of 108g/km.

The 2.0-litre also has a frugal fuel figure of 62.8mpg and emissions of 119g/km while the petrol models are rated at 47.4mpg and 138g/km.

Pound for pound that stacks up well in the fleet market where low running costs are vital.

The new Avensis had its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March where both the saloon and the Touring Sports showed off Toyota's sharp new approach to design.

As well as more angular body lines the interior finish is much more refined with the instrumentation centred on a 4.2-inch full colour TFT screen between the speedo and rev counter.

Air conditioning, cruise control, Bluetooth and anti-collision systems feature across the range which comprises 24 versions in four trim levels.

Top range Excel models cost from £26,635 for the saloon and £28,440 for the tourer and come with leather trim, adaptive headlamps and, in the case of the estate, a panoramic sunroof.

Mid-range Business Edition models are priced from £20,995 and include sat nav, a reversing camera, automatic high beam function and lane departure warning systems as well as traffic sign recognition.

First deliveries of the new Avensis are expected in late June and production is now ramping up at Burnaston where Toyota also makes the Auris hatchback and hybrid models.
