THE fastest used car off UK forecourts last month in a market dominated by people carriers and off-roaders was the Nissan Pathfinder .

And for the first time, budget 4x4 the Dacia Duster entered the Hot Five from industry analysts Glass's in third spot, showing that the rapidly emerging brand has plenty of appeal for used buyers.

Other vehicles with plenty of seats and lots of room for holiday luggage included the Peugeot 5008 in second place and the Chrysler Grand Voyager in fourth.

Rupert Pontin, Head of Valuations at Glass's, said: "Used car sales at this time of year are often dominated by family friendly cars as the holiday getaway is top of mind for buyers.

"All of the vehicles that have made the Top Five represent excellent value for families."

The Hot Five are: 1. Nissan Pathfinder, 2. Peugeot 5008, 3. Dacia Duster, 4. Chrysler Grand Voyager and 5. Ford Kuga.

Pontin continued: "Nissan's family friendly Pathfinder makes it to the top of the charts. Great space and acceptable running costs mean this is a popular family and small business friendly car suitable for holidays and a wide range of leisure pursuits.

"The Peugeot 5008 is not a trade favourite but as a retail proposition is a fairly good bet with great space and good value for money.

"The vehicles we are seeing are an average of 35 months old with 32,000 miles so it would appear that there are plenty of examples coming off contract."

Glass's say that seeing the Dacia Duster in third place is interesting as it shows the Renault-owned value brand demonstrating real customer appeal in the used sector.

The age and mileage profile suggests that the Dusters are end of 18-month contract cars, and ideal for the family retail buyer.

Says Pontin: "Chrysler's ever popular Grand Voyager makes fourth spot despite its generally higher running costs. This shows that families still need larger and more robust MPVs in time for the summer holidays.

"The Ford Kuga has a lot of road presence to go with great build quality and good spec levels - all of which attract the discerning buyer looking for a bit of exclusivity."

Glass's Hot Five is based on 300 models, all of which have been subject to more than 50 price observations over a four-week period.

The set is then split by range, and an average is determined by the number of days that cars have been advertised on web portals.
