FRENCH luxury car brand DS is about to launch its first completely new model since becoming a standalone company within the Peugeot Citroen group.

An all-new DS 4 will be on sale in November in two body styles - a sleek looking hatchback or a slightly larger crossover called the Crossback.

The hatch is marginally larger than the current DS 4 while the Crossback sits more than an inch higher and resembles a compact SUV.

It also comes with roof rails, pronounced wheel arches and gloss black spoilers to emphasise its looks.

The new model will have its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show and at launch will be available with a choice of two engines, a 130ps petrol and a 120ps diesel.

More powerful versions will be rolled out later including a powerful 210ps turbo and a 180ps diesel with emissions for the whole line up ranging from 100 to 138g/km.

The 120ps diesel is rated at 74.3mpg while the 130ps petrol has an official fuel figure of 55.4 to the gallon.

In line with its premium image the DS 4 will also be available in two tone paint finishes creating 38 colour combinations while the interiors feature leather trim and upholstery as well as panoramic windscreens and LED headlamps.

The dashboard is centred on a seven-inch touchscreen and the new DS 4 is fitted with CarPlay allowing full integration of the latest iPhone systems. A Mirror Screen facility also enables all types of smartphone to be hooked up to the car.

Keyless entry, blind spot alerts and a rear view camera are other high teach features as is the DS Connect Box which includes automatic emergency assistance and vehicle tracking.

Since becoming the premium brand in the PSA group, DS has separated from its Citroen roots with the DS 3 no longer wearing the chevron badge and the larger DS 5 being upgraded a few months ago. The company has also revealed an exotic concept car, the Divine DS.
