IT'S billed as a one-off built specially for the Frankfurt motor show, but the SEAT Leon Cross Sport looks to be more production ready than many of the concept cars on display at the German motoring extravaganza.
According to SEAT boss Jürgen Stackmann, the Spanish maker is "testing out a new idea" but don't be surprised if this high-performance, crossover model eventually appears in the showrooms as an addition to the Leon line-up.
The Cross Sport is based on the recently uprated Leon Cupra 290 hot hatch. The 300 PS two-litre engine provides a 0 to 60mph sprint time of under 4.9 seconds and is coupled to an electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system with electronic differential lock.
In spite of its coupe-like styling its ground clearance is 41 millimetres higher than the Cupra and it sits on 19-inch wheels encased in prominent, extended wheel arches.
