THE hot version of SEAT's Ibiza hatchback is getting more power and a racy gearbox with a new powertrain being fitted to the latest Cupra models.

A 1.8-litre turbo engine with 192ps on tap is replacing the 1.4 block shaving the Ibiza Cupra's 0 to 60 time down to 6.7 seconds. Top speed is now 146mph.

The new model is also being fitted with a DSG semi-automatic gearbox replacing the six-speed manual set up which sees its official fuel return now stand at 45.6mpg with emissions of 148g/km.

Prices for the new Ibiza Cupra - which is available only in three-door coupe style - are now £800 lower and run from £18,100.

Black edition models, which include sat nav and a larger touchscreen control as well as additional body trim, cost from £18,900.

Other changes include uprated front brakes and a multi-mode drive profile which can alter damping and steering settings from comfort to sport.
