KOREAN manufacturer SsangYong is showcasing its latest product at the Motorhome and Caravan Show in Birmingham - the new Turismo Tourist Camper.

It is based on a standard SsangYong Turismo MPV and at over five metres long and with a three metre wheelbase creates the perfect campervan.

It's bigger than a standard sized people carrier and power comes from a 2.2 litre, 178bhp diesel engine offered with the choice of a six-speed manual transmission or new Mercedes-Benz seven-speed automatic.

There's also the option of two-wheel or four wheel drive.

The design and manufacturing work to create the new Turismo Tourist Camper has been undertaken in the UK by Wellhouse Leisure of Huddersfield, a leading UK campervan manufacturer.

The campervan comprises a colour-matched elevating roof, driver and passenger swivel and folding seats to create twin beds with in-fill cushions and memory foam toppers, a rear tailgate awning, sliding glass top hob for indoor or outdoor use, small sink, gas bottle, 12v charging system, 25-litre compressor fridge, fresh and waste water containers and portable toilet.

All the woodwork is made from light weight ply.

Prices for the Turismo Tourist start at £29,995, and options include Eberspacher heating, mains hook-up and a solar panel.

Paul Williams, chief executive of SsangYong Motor UK, said: "The Turismo is one of the largest cars on the market, and in standard form offers seating for seven adult passengers and their luggage, and therefore ideal for conversion into a two-person campervan."
