AUDI is to reveal a production ready concept version of its new Q8 SUV coupe at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The new model, which is based on the large Q7 4x4, will become the German premium brand's new flagship SUV.

"With the Audi Q8 concept, we have created a new spearhead within our Q model line. Its design strongly evokes sportiness and prestige," said Marc Lichte, Audi's head of design.

"What's more, we believe an important aspect of this show car is that it offers a spacious interior with four equally comfortable seats, even with the flat roof line."

The concept model features an enlarged front grille, huge air intakes and sculpted lines along the side.

Prior to it going on show in the US in January Audi has released two new sketches of the concept car showing its sharp body lines in profile and from the front.

The Q8 is slated to debut later in 2017 to compete against the likes of the BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE. It is due for release the year after and is likely to be priced upwards of £50,000.
