AT last, Land Rover's long awaited, mid-range luxury SUV can be revealed ⦠at least in part.
Officially the wraps will not be taken off the fourth member of the Range Rover family for another week or so, but these sneak preview images show the elegant-looking rear of the new car fitted with a panoramic glass roof and demonstrate where it will slot into the model line-up.
Wider and higher than the Evoque, it will be named the Range Rover Velar - the codename given by Land Rover to the very first Range Rover prototypes in 1969 - it will fit between the Evoque and the larger Range Rover Sport. "Filling the white space," between the two, says the company.
Land Rover is keeping details to itself at the moment, but the company promises"elegant simplicity, a visually reductive approach and pioneering consumer technology".
Land Rover chief design officer, Gerry McGovern, said: "We call the Velar the avant garde Range Rover. It brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything."
Full details will be announced on March 1 ahead of its public unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show the following week.
