Hot Megane to spice
up Frankfurt
THE all-new Megane Renault Sport will be the first hot hatch to have four-wheel steering and offer a choice between two chassis set ups.
Renault claims its 4CONTROL four-wheel steer technology delivers enhanced agility, cornering performance and steering precision by enabling the car's rear wheels to assist in steering by means of an electromagnetic actuator mounted on the rear axle.
Renault Sport engineers have specifically calibrated the system to take the car's performance to new limits to give exceptional agility and cornering stability at higher speeds.
New Megane Renault Sport drivers will also be able to choose between a Sport chassis, which combines high performance and ride comfort in everyday use or a Cup chassis, engineered to deliver track performance.
The Megane Renault Sportwill be powered by a 300bhp 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and its sprint time from zero to 62mph is expected to be around 5.5 seconds.
The French hot hatch is expected to make its first public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and has been tested by Renault Sport F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg.
When it goes on sale later in the year it will be up against the likes of the latest Honda Civic Type R and the Ford Focus RS, and its starting price is likely to be around £27,000.
