A MERCEDES-Benz saloon once owned by Bee Gees star Barry Gibb is being sold at auction alongside a BMW that was driven by Status Quo frontman Francis Rossi.

The two models will be going under the hammer at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show being held at the Birmingham NEC in March.

The 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL was owned by Barry Gibb for more than 30 years and has just 59,000 miles on the clock.

With hydraulic rear suspension - an expensive option for a car of that time - it has a guide price of between £12,000 and £15,000.

It has been serviced and MOT'd annually with many of the invoices on file invoiced to Barry Gibb personally.

Rossi's BMW is a 750iL dating from 1995 and which was in the musician's ownership for 17 years.

The car is an automatic and described as being in exceptional condition for its age by Classic Car Auctions which is holding the sale at the show on March 24 and 25.

It is estimated to fetch between £7,000 and £9,000.

Richard Greenhalgh, classic car specialist at Classic Car Auctions, said: "It would be a tragedy to miss the opportunity to own either of these cars, previously owned by two of the biggest names in the music industry."
