REVITALISED Jaguar is set to be the first car manufacturer to list more speed among the options that can be ordered with one of its models.

In a move to make it more competitive with supercar rivals, the famous British sports car firm is adding an extra 19mph to the top speed of its supercharged XKR Coupe.

With a whopping 510PS under its bonnet, the five-litre car reaches 174mph to become the fastest XK model yet.

Cost of the engine and transmission recalibration is £3,500, but the Speed Pack also includes a revised front aerodynamic splitter and larger rear spoiler to provide increased balance and a reduction in lift.

The XKR's computerised Active Differential Control also adjusts to reduce steering sensitivity at very high speeds to improve stability and driver control.

According to chief programme engineer Russ Varney: "The new pack gives the car immense reserves of power and acceleration which impress everyone who experience it.

"The XKR has always had the potential to reach speeds far beyond its original electronically limited maximum of 155mph and many of our customers have expressed an interest in a car that can safely be driven faster where conditions permit.

"By raising the XKR's maximum speed the pack has extended its sporting credentials, taking it even further into supercar performance territory,' adds Varney.

The XKR speed pack includes body-coloured side sills and rear diffuser and a chrome finish to the window surrounds, front grilles and side power vents, along with red brake callipers with a Jaguar ‘R' logo on 20-inch Kasuga alloy wheels, and it will be launched at the Geneva motor show along with a paint and trim pack which can be added for a further £500.
