THE fastest road going Ferrari ever produced will have a top speed in excess of 208mph.

Due to make its debut at the Chinese Motor Show at the end of April, the 599 GTO follows such Ferrari legends as the 1984 GTO and the classic 1962 250 GTO.

Powered by a six-litre V12 engine developing 670bhp, the 599 GTO has a 0 to 60mph acceleration time of just 3.3 seconds.

Only 599 examples will be produced and the car has been developed from the 599 XX experimental track car.

It is fitted with magnetic suspension and carbon ceramic brakes as well as carbon fibre gear shift paddles which have been made longer to ease use at high speeds.

Weighing 1.6 tons the 599 GTO has lapped the 1.9 mile Ferrari test track at Fiorano in 1 minute 24 seconds - quicker than a Ferrari Enzo.

Despite the breathtaking performance Ferrari is claiming the 599 GTO can average around 16mpg with CO2 emissions of 411g/km.

Prices are still to be announced but can be expected to be around £250,000.
