ANOTHER Toyota vehicle is being recalled over a potential safety issue.
The latest alert involves more than 300 Land Cruiser 4x4s which were built between July 2002 and September 2006.
Already this year the Japanese car maker has recalled more than 100,000 models in the UK after problems were identified on a number of cars.
Some cars made by Toyota's luxury Lexus brand have also required additional checks.
The latest issue involves a fault on the last generation Land Cruiser Amazon which can cause the steering to fail if the vehicle is subjected to repeated opposite lock.
Toyota says the problem is caused by violent impacts with potholes or other obstacles which can snap a bracket within the steering mechanism.
The company says there have been only two reported incidents in Europe and no reported accidents related to the problem.
In total 348 vehicles in Britain are being recalled.
Jon Williams, Toyota GB's commercial director, said: "We apologise for any concern and inconvenience caused to our customers by this campaign.
"Toyota takes all quality and safety issues extremely seriously and we are intensifying our efforts to ensure the quality of our customers' ownership experience is safeguarded."
Owners will be contacted by Toyota and asked to take their vehicles to a Toyota service centre, where the affected parts will be replaced with improved ones. The replacement will be performed at no cost to the owner and the repair takes approximately two hours.
Elsewhere in Europe a sister model, the LX 470, which was never sold in the UK, is also subject to a recall while Toyota has announced it is recalling a number of Avalon saloons in North America.
Earlier this year Toyota recalled thousands of cars for checks after a problem was discovered which could cause accelerator pedals to sticks. A potential brake problem was also identified on the new Prius hybrid.
Land Cruiser owners can find out if their vehicle is involved in latest recalls by entering their Vehicle Identification Number on the Toyota website at
Toyota has also launched a recall information page on the website, which will be updated with the latest information. Customers with any concerns can contact their local Toyota centre or the Toyota customer relations team on 01737 367600.
