THE next generation of Mercedes' super coupe will be the first car in the world to use full LED headlamps.
The state of the art lighting system not only uses less energy but is also said to offer a brighter beam.
Mercedes says that the new CLS, which will have its world premiere at October's Paris Motor Show, is the first to use LED lights for all headlamp functions.
Some 71 LEDs have been arranged in three arrow shaped sectors to provide daylight running lights, indicators, low and main beam. The rear lights also use LED technology.
With its long, sleek lines the new CLS follows on from the original four door, four seat coupe which was launched seven years ago.
Inside the CLS will feature a choice of five interior designs and three different leather finishes.
There will also be three choices of wooden trim - high-gloss brown burr walnut, high-gloss black ash and satin-finish light-brown poplar with optional piano lacquer or carbon fibre inserts.
The new CLS is due on sale early next year. Prices are still to be announced although the current range runs from £48,400 to £77,960.
