The 640i gets a 3.0- litre straight six with 320bhp, while the 650i has a new version of the 4.4-litre V8 fitted with twin turbochargers between the banks of cylinders giving a power output of 407bhp.

The newly developed chassis common to both cars comes with drive dynamic control, which allows the driver to choose the responsiveness of gearbox, steering and accelerator.

And the adaptive drive system is available as an option which gives electrically controlled dampers and anti-roll stabilisation.
