ECO friendly versions of VW's sleek Scirocco and Passat coupes are being introduced pushing average fuel consumption to more than 60 miles per gallon.

The BlueMotion Technology models use a variety of devices including stop/start engines and brake energy regeneration to improve fuel efficiency.

All entry-level Scirocco and GT models with the 2.0-litre 140 PS engine now feature BlueMotion Technology which has improved average fuel consumption from 55.4mpg to 62.8mpg while cutting emissions from 134 g/km to 118 g/km.

In the Passat CC the changes result in 60.1 mpg, up from 50.4, and CO emissions are cut to 125 g/km, down from 146 g/km which result in lower tax liability on both models.

Prices for the Scirocco BlueMotion Technology start from £21,500 while the Passat CC with the energy saving equipment is available from £23,555.
