Citroen in comfort

IN this motoring world where every new model seems to be more sporting and therefore less comfortable, the new Citroen C4 is a revelation.

This is a car that goes back to Citroen's roots, with driver and passengers completely insulated against all imperfections of the road surface.

Other writers have said its suspension is too soft, leading to poor handling. Rubbish and twaddle.

The steering might not be as informative as some, but the way it takes the corners left a couple of drivers wondering where I had gone when they were tailgating me.

I suggest that many new car buyers would be delighted to have the extra comfort - especially around town - and will be delighted to buy it for that alone.

I drove the 1.6 petrol, which is smooth as silk and offers decent performance if it's wound up towards the red line.

And of course, there are also diesels, including one with ultra low emissions.

The C4 is brilliant. I would love to live with one.

Inside there is plenty of room for four and enough for five with a slight squeeze. VTR+ trim brings aircon, alloys, customisable digital instruments which can be any colour you wish, and Bluetooth phone connection.
