Boxster of delights

PORSCHE'S Boxster is so good I have to wonder why anyone buys the 911.

There is apparently a new model waiting in the wings, but the old ones still look very good.

But don't buy one just to pose in or for trips to the shops, that's a complete waste. These are cars made to be driven, not just used.

The first Boxster had a 2.5-litre flat six with 204bhp and this was followed by a 2.7-litre with 220bhp.

In 2004 when the range was updated, basic models had 240bhp, the 3.2-litre S had 252bhp and other models have been added with power as high as 305bhp.

Older models are now much more affordable - down to under £6,000 and most will have Porsche service history all the way, meaning that even with 100,000 miles or more on the clock, they still have loads of life left.

You get marvellous performance, unstickable road-holding, pin-sharp handling and real comfort, in one of the prettiest two seaters around.

The electric hood takes just a few seconds up or down and is snug in the worst of weather, the seats are all-but perfect for comfort and handling and the brakes are awesome.
