THE latest Audi A6 Avant estate will boast a new range-topping 313bhp turbo diesel towards the end of the year.
But when it launches in November, it will have the same petrol and TDI diesel units available in the saloon.
Weight has been reduced from that of the old model by the extensive use of aluminium throughout the design.
This helps the most frugal 177bhp diesel 2.0-litre to a best economy figure of 56mpg and just 132g/km of carbon dioxide emissions.
As with the saloon, there will be a choice of manual, multitronic CVT automatic or S-tronic twin clutch automatic gearboxes. The multitronic is used with front wheel drive cars and the s-tronic with four wheel drive quattros.
All models come with a start-stop system, energy recuperation under braking and the innovative system that quickly brings coolant and oil up to operating temperature.
These ancillary features make a major contribution to a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 18% over the old model.
Expect a spacious interior with excellent quality materials and build, All controls for stereo, climate etc., will be through the Audi MMI system, but this is not as intuitive or as easy to use as the company might have you believe.
