BOASTING jaw-dropping good looks and a performance to match the powerful Jaguar XKR is the perfect car for thrill-seekers who enjoy a touch of class.
Admittedly the 5.0-litre beauty comes at a price - £77,900 to be precise - but when it comes to performance there are few to match its credentials.
The XKR can race from 0-62mph in just 4.6 seconds and the top speed has even been limited to 174mph. It's due to these impressive stats that you can expect a combined fuel efficiency of just 23mpg - ouch.
From the second you lay eyes on the XKR you cannot fail to notice its bullet-like streamlining, black wheels to match the exterior colour and quad exhaust pipes.
And that wow factor continues once you take your seat behind the multi-function steering wheel.
The leather, body hugging sports seats can be adjusted to find the perfect driving position and there is a number of memory settings to store this information. These seats can even be heated or cooled when required.
In addition, there is mood lighting, climate control, a touch screen with access to the sat nav and a quality audio system which, of course, is compatible with all the modern devices imaginable.
Front seat occupants have bags of space and although there are rear seats, they are certainly not designed for adults.
Elsewhere the boot is fairly spacious considering the sharply raked hatchback styling and there are a couple of useful storage options throughout the cabin.
But, luxurious features aside, this car is all about performance and how it loves to show off.
From the second you press the button to start the engine, it bursts into life with such a roar it's guaranteed to wake the neighbours and just the slightest pressure on the accelerator pedal gives a glimpse into the power at your disposal.
Acceleration through the six-speed automatic transmission is smooth and very responsive and the handling at higher speeds is exceptional.
The XKR cruises effortlessly through busy city centre traffic and all-round sensors make parking a fairly easy task.
It's not exactly the quietest cabin, especially at higher speeds, but that actually adds to the appeal in a strange sort of way.
The XKR is fitted with state-of-the-art safety specifications such as anti-lock brakes, pedestrian contact system, plenty of airbags, emergency brake assist, whiplash reduction system, an excellent alarm system and plenty more besides.
