INFINITI embraces a level of service it calls the Total Ownership Experience.

There aren't traditional showrooms; instead the Infiniti centres are based on luxury boutique hotels.

Nor will you find salesmen patrolling the floor - Infiniti prefers to call its staff Ambassadors, with each customer interacting with a Consultant or Technician.

And if repair or servicing is required the Infiniti people will collect and return your car once the job's been sorted, provided you live within a 150-mile radius.

That's just as well seeing as there are only a half dozen centres in the UK, though five more are set to open by the end of this year.

Even though there are six distinct Infiniti models on sale, all remain fairly rare birds on British roads - giving them an exclusivity appeal.

Those not familiar with brand can be reassured though that, like Lexus is the prestige arm of Toyota, Infiniti is the premium extension of Nissan.

The cars aren't cheap, but they are attractive and impressively put together. Big question is whether they can hack it with the opposition when the serious choices have to be made.

The G37 Convertible is the only drop-top in the line-up and while it is quite a stylish, muscular car - especially with the roof down - it doesn't possess those ‘got to have one' looks.

Inside it's luxuriously appointed with the sort of kit you would expect from a £43,000 vehicle, but even the top grade Premium trim doesn't come with the red leather upholstery and red stained maple wood featured in the test model, both being extra cost options.

There's much to like about the G37 though. For instance opening the three-piece hard top is automotive poetry in motion - a 25-second operation at the touch of a button.

The colour rear view camera with front and rear parking sensors is a boon for parking and if you do have a minor mishap there's ‘self healing' Scratch-shield paint.

And while rear space is realistically only sufficient for kids, they do travel in total comfort with easy entry and exit thanks to the 10-way electrically sliding front seats.

You don't get a choice with the engine - just a 3.7-litre V6 - but it sounds fantastic, delivering its punch right through the rev range, and is composed at pace on the motorway. There's a very precise, balanced feel from the steering too.
