Caddy tees up a
treat
IT'S a delivery van - but you wouldn't know it from the sporty style.
This slick offering from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is called the Caddy Edition 30, appropriately to mark next year's 30 anniversary of the popular Caddy model.
Described by the German company as ‘a near-production concept', the VW stands out from other Caddy models thanks to its gloss black roof and roof rails, and machine-polished 17-inch alloy wheels.
The fact that this is a special edition model is also shown by signatures on the sliding doors, the back of the vehicle and the door sills, while buyers have a choice of contrasting Candy White, Reflex Silver, Salsa Red, Primavera Green or Sunny Yellow paint jobs.
Accommodation is in either five or seven-seat configuration, and there's a multi-function steering wheel, leather-trimmed gear stick and handbrake lever, semi-automatic climate control and tinted windows.
The Caddy Edition 30 is available with four different petrol or diesel engines - both with a short wheelbase as a car or as a panel van for commercial use - including a 170PS 2.0 TDI unit which is the most powerful ever installed in a production Caddy.
Volkswagen launched the Caddy on the European market in 1982, then still as a pick-up based on the Golf Mk1.
These days it is an established player in the compact and urban delivery van market, with more than 1.5 million vehicles sold.
