THE latest car to bear the BMW 6 logo has just gone on sale and it's a stunner.

It's a three-litre straight six twin turbo as we have seen before, but now beefed up to produce 313bhp and massive torque to give a 5.5 second time to 62 miles an hour.

All models in the range get the company's EfficientDynamics technology, with stop/start and other clever stuff to eke out the precious nectar.

This helps the 640d, as the diesel is called, achieve an almost unbelievable 51 miles per gallon, and just 145g/km of carbon dioxide emissions.

Drive is to the rear wheels of course, through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and expect all the bells and whistles.

At this exalted level, there should not be an extras list, but knowing BMW, I'll bet there is.

The company claims that every interior will be "made to measure" for four people which presumably means that cars will be built completely to order.There are two individual rear seats and expect the very best of materials throughout.
