THOSE of us who still love to drive despite the gridlock for most of every day will almost certainly be delighted with the latest 200bhp scorcher from Toyota.
The GT 86 made its world debut at the Tokyo Motor Show and is a truly beautiful 2+2 coupe that looks fast when it's standing still.
The 2.0-litre flat four ‘boxer' engine has been developed with Subaru, and produces 197bhp at a heady 7,000 revs, so it looks like there's no turbo.
It drives the rear wheels through either six speed manual or automatic gearboxes.
Toyota claims that its D-4S injection technology still gives good low speed pulling power and that's a rarity in such a high revving unit.
It also claims the new sportster is completely driver focussed and has been "designed to recapture the joys of motoring".
Can't wait to see if it's as good as they say.
Toyota says it will offer the world's most compact four-seat coupe and will come with a buckskin-trimmed steering wheel, 17-inch alloys, carbon-effect trim, an all-black roof lining, red stitching for the upholstery, aviation-style rocker switches and lightweight, aluminium pedals.
It goes on sale in June 2012.
