ALL later Mitsubishi Shogun Sports had a 2.5-litre four cylinder diesel engine but it only had 115bhp.
Now as you can imagine, in something with a hefty off-roader body and four wheel drive that's not going to make scintillating performance.
This makes long journeys rather dull but, on the plus side, they are easy to drive thanks to a reasonably light clutch, a fairly easy gearchange and well weighted power steering.
Off-road performance is excellent, pulling it through the toughest of quagmires and up the steepest of hills - as long as the right tyres are fitted.
Long travel suspension also means that the ride is fairly good both on and off-road, but of course, it also means roly-poly cornering.
There was a petrol alternative - a 3.0-litre V6 that offers decent performance if you can stand the thirst.
All that aside, it's big enough for a family and the high view over surrounding traffic is marvellous.
There is plenty of legroom both front and rear and a huge load area will take all the kit for a football team.
It is very high, and that can make things difficult climbing in and out. Equipment is good, with electric windows and central locking in all, and leather upholstery and air con in many.
