BMW M6 really looks

THE old BMW 6 Series never grew on me and looked liked it had been designed by a committee who couldn't agree.

But the latest car to bear the designation - and following a long line of brilliant coupes - really looks the part.

Now, after just a short time on the market, the company has extended the coupe and convertible range, with an M6 Tarmac burner and a much more suitable barnstorming diesel with all wheel drive.

The M6 has an almost unbelievable 560bhp from its twin turbo V8, which, according to the company, should be good for 4.2 seconds to 62mph, 28mpg and emissions of 232g/km.

The oil burner gets a twin turbo 3.0-litre with 313bhp and 0 to 62mph in 5.2 seconds. It's xDrive four-wheel-drive system distributes the power seamlessly between front and rear axles so that it is always where it's needed.

Both cars have an eight-speed sports automatic gearbox.

The M6 should have the best of everything as standard but I doubt the 640d will be far behind.

That said, should you be in the market for one, there will be a wide array of must-have extras available.
