SUBARU'S much-awaited BRZ sports car will cost from a competitive £24,995 when it hits the streets this summer - though such is demand for the car that some buyers may have to wait months for delivery.

With the promise of an exhilarating driving experience courtesy of a light weight, low centre of gravity and 2.0-litre Boxer engine, the BRZ will be offered in two model variants - 2.0i SE, and 2.0i SE Lux - though a more basic S model is anticipated for launch next year.

Transmission choice is a six-speed manual or, for £1,500 more, a six-speed automatic with paddle shift operation.

Both the SE and SE Lux will come equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, a torque-sensing limited slip differential and fully automatic air conditioning with dual-zone controls.

There will also be electrically-folding door mirrors with heaters; keyless Smart Entry with push-button engine start, leather-trimmed steering wheel, parking brake and gearshift lever plus a six-speaker sound system with CD, radio and iPod connectivity.

The SE Lux also has heated leather seats while just two optional extras comprise Pioneer sat-nav at £1,000 and special paint finishes for £500.

And all BRZ buyers will be entitled to Subaru's 'Everything Taken Care of' aftercare package, which covers the likes of minor dent and scratch repairs, alloy wheel repairs, monthly wash, lost keys replacement, service collection, annual wheel alignment check and first MOT cover, for no additional cost.

Subara UK marketing chief Kenyon Neads said: "There is huge interest in the Subaru BRZ. Early demand is strong so we fully expect that some early customers will have to wait some months for delivery, especially during 2012."
