WITH looks guaranteed to bring out the green eyed monster in any bystander, the Mercedes SLK simply oozes class at every turn.

It has gorgeous streamlining that combines beautifully with its rugged stance, set off with twin chrome tailpipes, LED daytime running lights, tinted glass, aluminium trim, 17-inch alloys and plenty more.

The build quality and level of on-board technical wizardry is just as apparent inside with luxury leather seating which can be heated, an audio system with surround sound via 11 speakers, ambient lighting and a list that goes on and on.

The roof can be raised or lowered in seconds at the press of a button and there are even neck level heaters to beat off the chill.

One factor that really impressed me was the car's asking price. I appreciate a starting mark of £29,900 rising to just shy of £38,500 with optional extras is not exactly cheap, but when it comes to value for money, this car is kitted out with only the very finest materials and equipment.

And then there's the handling. With its low stance, the SLK is amazing to drive.

Despite, not being able to rely on the weather, should the rain ease off for a moment, the wind-in-the-hair driving experience is something that won't be forgotten in a hurry.

The 1.8-litre engine has a real sporty roar and the acceleration is excellent. To be fair, it feels faster than it is, especially with the roof lowered.

The road-holding is flawless, even in the wet at higher speeds and although you can expect to feel most dips and bumps in this two-seater that also adds to the appeal.

With the hard top roof raised, there is a much calmer, quieter and refined feel to the SLK but that dynamic driving experience is just as thrilling as you work your way through the six-speed manual transmission.

Visibility is pretty good for such a low vehicle and although boot space is limited with the roof down, there is ample room for a couple of small cases.

Elsewhere there are a number of options to tuck maps and sunglasses away throughout the cabin.

As one would expect, Mercedes has fitted a comprehensive list of safety features to the SLK, including anti-lock brakes, electronic stability programme, acceleration skid control, roll-over protection, numerous airbags and lots more.

All in all, the Mercedes SLK looks fabulous, handles brilliantly and is packed to bursting with quality features too. It's the ideal car to put the fun factor back into driving.
