Turbo tops out

Veloster line-up

Hyundai Veloster Turbo SE

A TURBOCHARGED version of Hyundai's cool-looking Veloster 1+2 door coupe will hit the road on September 24.

This new flagship model of the Veloster line-up, the first vehicle to feature Hyundai's 1.6-litre T-GDI engine with a high-compression, twin-scroll turbocharger, will top the range at £21,995.

With strong power output and low end torque, the Turbo model develops 184bhp and is mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission for a top speed of 133mph and acceleration from 0-62mph in 8.4 seconds.

Efficiency has also been maximised, so in spite of increased performance the Veloster Turbo SE offers CO emissions of 157g/km with fuel economy of 40.9mpg on the combined cycle.

On the outside the standard car's 1+2 door layout is retained but with the addition of a new front bumper, radiator grille and front fog lights while the rear gets a revised bumper which includes a new fog lamp design plus round twin exhausts and diffuser.

A longer and wider rear spoiler with integrated LED brake light completes the visual changes along with a red Turbo name plate on the bottom right of the bootlid, and 18-inch alloy wheels with chrome inserts.

Colour options comprise a solid White Crystal, pearl Phantom Black and Matt Grey while a tilt and slide panoramic sunroof is available for £950.

Inside, there are re-designed leather seats with grey panels and seven-inch touchscreen sat-nav with media centre and reverse parking camera come as standard along with an upgraded eight-speaker sound system.

Hyundai's UK chief Tony Whitehorn said: "The Veloster has quickly established itself as a fun car and a unique proposition. Now the the Turbo SE brings an extra helping of dynamism, excitement and emotional appeal to our refreshed model line-up.

"Its overall package is genuinely strong against other competitors such as the VW Scirocco 1.4TSI and the Astra GTC 1.6i 16v VVT Turbo".
