SEAT has taken a leaf out of its stablemate Skoda's book with the launch of the latest Toledo, which will be in showrooms next spring.
Just like the Czech company's Octavia, it's a five door hatch that looks like a saloon, but is about the size of the Ford Focus.
The company claims the new model will be great value for money and have plenty of style. Yet with a long wheelbase, it should also have big interior space and, with the latest VW group engines, it is bound to major on efficiency.
Engines will be 1.2 and 1.4 petrol, with power ranging from 75 to 120bhp, and two versions of the same 1.6 TDI diesel with 90 or 105bhp.
If the weight has been held down, as it seems to be with most new models these days, those power outputs are enough for good performance and economy.
Petrol ecomotive versions bring emissions down to 116g/km of CO2 and the diesel version emits just 104!g/km.
Details are sparse on interior spec as of yet but SEAT says the Toledo will have a wide opening rear hatch and 60/40 split folding back seat to extend boot space when needed.
Base spec will include six-speed manual gearbox, six airbags, aircon, electric front windows, stability control and more. Reference and Style will bring extra comfort and design.
