THE Lexus CT200 hatchback offers a luxurious package with tremendous standard kit and a very up-market feel.
Being a petrol-electric hybrid it has good performance along with excellent economy and very low emissions.
It uses the powertrain from parent company Toyota's Prius and performed effortlessly and very quietly during the time I had it.
In traffic it will run for up to a mile at under 25 miles an hour on battery power and then as speed rises the 1.8 petrol engine cuts in completely seamlessly so that occupants have no idea it has happened.
The battery charges as you brake and there are a number of other fuel saving gizmos, but while the official average is 67, the best economy I could get was 47mpg.
The real drawback with this smallest Lexus is a rather knobbly ride at times, although the car I drove had the optional sports suspension.
The list of standard equipment, typically for Lexus, reads like an extras brochure and includes Bluetooth, climate, alloys, front and rear parking sensors, eight airbags, heated seats and the standard CVT automatic gearbox.
Well-shaped seats and good adjustment help give a very comfortable driving position, and emissions of just 94 grammes per kilometre of carbon dioxide means zero road tax.
