Honda CR-Z

HONDA has revamped its sporty CR-Z hybrid model with the emphasis on style and performance.

It means the power of both the petrol engine and electric motor has been increased to 137PS without affecting fuel economy or increasing exhaust emissions.

The car also features a Lithium Ion battery for the first time and a Plus Sport (S+) boost system to help the driver make best use of the performance.

Style upgrades include a new front bumper design and revised grille complemented at the rear by a new aerodynamic diffuser design, while 17-inch alloy wheels grace the GT model.

There are two fresh colours - Energetic Yellow and Aurora Violet - while Honda has also updated the hybrid's interior with a new colour scheme while revisions to the door casings improve cabin storage.

Under the bonnet the CR-Z's 1.5-litre petrol engine has been updated, its peak power output increased from 114  to 121PS, and the electric motor system has also been given extra power.

Working in unison, the hybrid system now delivers a combined output of 137PS improving the 0-62mph sprint time from 9.7 sec to 9.0 sec with a top speed of 124 mph. Combined fuel consumption is 56.5 mpg and CO2 emissions are 116g/km.

Honda has also introduced a Plus Sport boost system whereby if the battery is more than 50 per cent charged, the driver can activate this set-up using the S+ button on the steering wheel.

The revised CR-Z will go on sale in January.
