SSANGYONG is trying to invent a new genre of car with the XIV concept shown earlier this year.
According to the company it is a ‘CUV' - crossover utility vehicle, but it should really be a CCUV, because it also comes with a convertible, roll-back roof.
So if it makes production - and it's good-looking enough to do so - it should appeal to a wide cross section of new car buyers.
The company says that the emphasis is on fun and so, although it looks like an SUV, it is supposed to have the driving character and size of family hatch.
Power in the concept comes from an efficient and frugal 1.6-litre diesel turbo or from a 1.6-litre petrol.
Both are claimed to be eco friendly and emissions of 121g/km for the diesel and 127 for the petrol are not bad for an SUV while being nothing to shout about.
Both get stop/start and will have either six-speed manual or automatic drive.
It's a pure four seater, with all occupants getting a bucket-style seat finished in carbon fibre and aluminium. Can't see that making production.
And there should be three and five door bodystyles plus a coupe and a long wheelbase with more space. Hope it makes production.
