Mercedes ready to
breathe fire
A REVAMPED version of the fiery Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, with even more power than before, will be unveiled at this month's Detroit Motor Show.
And the line-up includes a new S-Model capable of blasting from 0-62 in a mere 3.6 seconds and on to an electronically limited 155mph.
On this version, which comes as either a saloon or estate, the AMG 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo engine generates a whopping 585bhp and 800Nm of torque - representing an increase of 28bhp over the AMG Performance package previously available as an option.
Otherwise the E63 AMG now boasts 549bhp, an additional 31 horse power, fractionally improving its acceleration time to 4.2 seconds.
Mercedes says that despite the added power, all the models offer high efficiency, low fuel consumption and low exhaust emissions, the AMG 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo remaining the most efficient series production V8 engine around.
Headline figures are 28.8mpg and CO2 emissions of 230g/km, all cars meeting the stringent Euro 6 emissions standard which will not enter into force until 2015.
With a more dynamic appeal than its predecessors the cars will have a new "twin blade" radiator grille and the A-wing in the front apron, while adaptive sports suspension is standard.
Only rear-wheel drive E-Class models will be available in the UK and prices will be announced ahead of the June launch date.
