SPANISH brand SEAT is extending the popular Copa trim grade, bringing up to £1,500 more kit at no extra cost, to its Altea and Altea XL line-up.

It follows the success of the same strategy used for the Leon hatchback range and features two spec levels - S Copa and SE Copa.

Based on standard S and SE grades, their arrival also brings about a simplification of the Altea line-up which sees S Emocion trim deleted from the range along with the 1.4 85PS and 1.4 TSI 125PS petrol engines.

SEAT says what remains are the most appealing Altea and Altea XL ranges ever offered, each comprising S, S Copa, SE and SE Copa trims plus 1.2 TSI 105PS, 1.6 TDI 105PS and 2.0 TDI 140PS engines. DSG automatic is available as an option on either of the diesels.

The lowest emitting model, the 1.6 TDI 105PS Ecomotive, returns a Combined 62.8mpg and 119g/km CO emissions, giving it a benefit-in-kind rating of 17 per cent.

In addition to the standard S spec, S Copa adds 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth with hands-free phone connection, steering wheel-mounted controls, two extra stereo speakers, dual-zone climate control, front fog lights, cruise control and passenger seat height adjustment, together worth £1,500.

In SE Copa editions there's also SEAT's Media System 2.2 with sat-nav, an SD card reader for music playback, DAB digital radio tuner, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming plus a multi-function driver's display and five-inch colour touch screen.

Also added is a package that includes rear parking sensors, automatic windscreen wipers and lights and an auto-dimming rear view mirror, for a total value of around £1,100.

Prices are from £16,425 for the Altea S Copa 1.2 TSI and £17,150 for the XL version.

SEAT UK product manager James Buckell said: "We haven't just added lots of equipment to the cars for the sake of it. Instead, we've listened to what our buyers really want and only added equipment that's of real use and value."
