SEAT Ibiza 1.2 TDi
SE Ecomotive
WHILE SEAT does have a penchant for integrating power into its line-up, the Spanish car maker is still tempting buyers with some great value packages.
Currently going great guns in the hugely popular supermini sector is SEAT's recently reworked Ibiza which also comes in with some very keen pricing.
Having enjoyed my fill of the SEAT big hitters I recently set out to try the SEAT Ibiza 1.2 TDI Ecomotive.one of the smallest tools in the drawer of the Audi/VW Group.
On the road the Ibiza's entry level diesel engine is the three cylinder 1.2 TDi with common rail direct injection and, developing 75bhp, it delivers some sturdy torque at just 1,500rpm while offering some superb fuel consumption of 72.4mpg and CO2 emission figures of 104g/km.
In Ecomotive form the start/stop set up slashes these figures even further to a truly remarkable 80.7mpg along with a tax-free 92g/km of CO2 emissions - and that's a big plus.
The nicely dressed up Ibiza comes with some decent appeal. Redesigned headlights plus a new look grille and front bumper helped to provide the Ibiza with a quite memorable view from all angles.
And, with SEAT's sensible pricing undercutting its VW sister model, the Polo, the Ibiza adds to its appeal by delivering Volkswagen dynamics for quite a decent reduction in outlay.
On the road the Ibiza was surprisingly well behaved, proving a pretty stable motorway cruiser which gripped quite strongly through corners.
To help cope with the daily grind there's also speed sensitive power assisted steering, a rev counter, driver, front passenger and front head thorax side airbags along with remote central locking with deadlocks and a height adjustable driver's seat.
The Ibiza remains the most popular SEAT currently on sale both in the UK and worldwide and comes with plenty of standard kit which includes body coloured bumpers, front electric windows, tinted windows, dust and pollen filter, adjustable instrument lighting, recommended gearshift indicator, height and reach adjustable steering wheel, Hill Hold, an MP3-compatible CD player with auxiliary input and steering wheel mounted controls.
The utmost attention to detail has also helped to deliver improved instrumentation and other practical features such as a generous glovebox with a simple lid and a number of recesses in the cockpit including three cupholders.
The front seats have been shaped for comfort and support while the optimised foam hardness of the sides give much greater support while further compartments and optional storage drawers under the cushions add further to the facilities.
Overall, this Ibiza comes with plenty of space, is fun to drive and comes with a 300 litre boot which is slightly larger than most cars in this class.
