Wraith ready to rock
for Rolls
THE most powerful car ever produced by Rolls-Royce has been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show.
It's the two-door Wraith coupe and it will set back Roller lovers a princely £220,000 when it arrives in the latter part of this year.
Rolls-Royce is describing the Wraith as "the ultimate gentlemen's gran turismo, a car that embodies the spirit of Charles Stewart Rolls".
Despite the power, 624bhp from its 6.6-litre twin turbo V12 engine, the Wraith's starting point is luxury, refinement and quality.
In profile, the car has a sweeping fastback design with a raked rear screen, deeply recessed grille, wide rear track and two-tone presentation.
And a sumptuous interior comes complete with soft Phantom-grade leather and expanses of wood called Canadel Panelling after the famous cove in the South of France where Sir Henry Royce and his design and engineering teams spent their winters,
The interior ambiance is complemented by Starlight Headliner, a bespoke feature available beyond Phantom family cars for the first time and for which 1,340 fibre optic lamps are hand-woven into the roof lining to give the impression of a glittering, starry night sky.
As for power, the V12 engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic ZF transmission and acceleration is 0-60 mph sprint is in 4.4 seconds, compared to 4.7 seconds for the 563bhp four-door Ghost, on which Wraith is based.
Rolls-Royce says that a wide rear track, shorter wheelbase and lower roof height also contribute to the most powerful, involving driving experience of any Roller in history, but with no compromise to the sensation of riding on a bed of air.
Making its debut on the Wraith is Satellite Aided Transmission technology which uses GPS data to see beyond what the driver sees.
It anticipates his next move based on location and current driving style, then selects the most appropriate gear for the terrain ahead - and that includes corners, motorway junctions and roundabouts.
Technology like head-up display, adaptive headlights, keyless opening boot and advanced connectivity are all included.
