WANT to drive a car that will plaster a grin on your face every day?

There are plenty out there of course, but the Toyota GT86 should be close to the top of the list.

This sleek and svelte 2+2 coupe is an absolute hoot to drive - and yet it is also comfortable and a reasonably refined cruiser.

Developed jointly with Subaru, it uses a new Subaru-based high revving flat four engine, giving a superbly low centre of gravity for excellent handling and road-holding.

It is also rear wheel drive - which some say is a prerequisite for a fine sportscar. I've always found the most important thing is a good chassis and then the driven wheels don't matter much.

The GT86 is sharp and focused in everything it does, with tremendous grip and absolutely perfect balance despite fairly narrow tyres, showing that wide low profile tyres aren't necessary even in a superb sporting car.

And the bonus is a comfortable ride - something most sportscars can't get close to.

The sports seats have been designed to give the maximum support in the corners and they also have excellent adjustment.

The rear seats are small child size, but it can carry three adults for short distances. Equipment is comprehensive, including keyless entry and starting, aircon, stability and traction control and Bluetooth.
