THE upmarket new E-Class Coupe from Mercedes-Benz will cost from £35,095 when it hits the streets next month while the drop-top Cabriolet will weigh in from £38,465.

Like their recently revised saloon and estate stablemates, the new pair feature significantly enhanced standard kit plus a stylish new look as part of the most extensive model revision ever undertaken by the prestige brand.

And Mercedes says both the coupe and cabrio are also up to 21 per cent more efficient than before, boasting the most advanced technology ever created for its cars.

It includes a new Stereo Multi-Purpose Camera, which features two ‘eyes' to produce a 3D view of up to 50 metres in front to aid the new or upgraded safety systems.

Two model lines are available in the shape of the SE - for the E 220 CDI engine only - and AMG Sport, which is offered on the E 220 CDI, E 250 CDI and E 350 BlueTEC diesels and one petrol unit, the E 200.

All include technology like Comand Online with media interface, DAB digital radio, a new speed-sensitive electric power steering system that improves emissions and fuel consumption, new partial LED headlights and safety features like Active Park Assist, Attention Assist and Collision Prevention Assist.

Buyers of the SE also get 17-inch twin-spoke alloys, a new front apron with sport grille, leather upholstery with heated front seats and dark aluminium trim.

AMG Sport models come with larger, 18-inch, twin-spoke alloys, upgraded front brakes featuring branded calipers and perforated discs, new AMG body styling, twin-pipe exhaust, leather upholstery with heated front seats and a flat-bottomed AMG steering wheel.

And for the latter there's also the option this autumn of upgrading to the £1,795 AMG Sport Plus package consisting of 19-inch bi-colour alloys, an AMG boot spoiler in body colour, red seat belts, sports seats and red stitching throughout.
