ALFA'S little MiTo coupe/hatch is an absolute stunner to look at and to drive.
I spent a week with the 1.4 litre petrol turbo and I've driven three or four others. They are all great fun.
The 1.4 petrol engine has been available in six different power outputs, from 76 to 170bhp.
They are all smooth and the 120bhp upwards models have plenty of power too.
It drives the front wheels through a six-speed gearbox which has the slickest change allied to a very light clutch.
There is also Fiat's 900cc turbo TwinAir with 85bhp and two versions of the same 1.3 diesel with either 85 or 95bhp.
The good to great performance is matched by fantastic grip and road holding, which is right up there with the best.
And in the turbocharged 1.4, there is a dash button that gives a choice of three power styles by changing the settings of the engine control computer.
The ride can be unsettled with such a sporting suspension setup, but it's never too bad.
