MERCEDES has followed the shape of the big CLS four door coupe in the smaller CLA, which as its name suggests is based on the latest A-class.
It also emulates the shape of the larger VW CC.
It's a little longer than the hatchback A-class but has a more aggressive look with bonnet bulges and a stronger grille.
But where the rear of the CLS looks good, this one doesn't quite hit the mark to my eyes perhaps tapering too much.
Front wheel drive power comes from the usual suspects - a 120bhp turbo 1.6 or a 168bhp 2.1-litre turbo diesel.
Start/stop is standard in all models and as with the normal A-class, two suspension set-ups are available depending on trim.
Those opting for the Sport trim get comfort suspension, and AMG models have lowered and stiffened Sport suspension.
Take my tip and go for the comfort - road holding is just as good and it's a lot more comfortable.
Expect the very best inside. Mercedes still has a long extras list, but thecars now come with many items as standard.
Safety is second to none of course, with collision prevention assist, stability control and even a radar emergency braking system that primes the brakes ready to stop the car as quickly as possible.
