KOREAN brand SsangYong is heralding its new Turismo model as having almost no competition.

At more than five metres long and with a three-metre wheelbase, the newcomer is larger than a standard sized MPV yet is a car rather than a van-derived people carrier.

Upshot is that its warehouse size interior space and flexible passenger and load carrying capability means it can carry seven adults and 875 litres of luggage - or two adults and 3,146 litres of load space - with seven different passenger and load combinations.

SsangYong sees the Turismo as the ideal multi-role vehicle as it fits the bill for family, leisure and business transportation.

Power comes via SsangYong's 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 155PS and there's a choice of six-speed manual or the five-speed Mercedes-Benz T-Tronic automatic transmission, with prices from £17,995.

Robust in profile with a design that disguises its size, the Turismo's interior has three rows of seats plus a large load space that can be increased by removing the third row.

And the second tier provides walk through access to the third row, and can also be folded individually and used as tables.

While rear wheel drive features across the range, the flagship EX includes selectable 4x4 with low ratio as standard and all models have a 2.5 tonne towing capability.

Air-con, electrically operated and heated door mirrors, leather steering wheel and gear knob, sound system with USB and Bluetooth feature across the range.

SsangYong's UK chief Paul Williams said: "With key features being its innovative and flexible design layout, luxurious interior and highly competitive pricing, the new Turismo is a compelling proposition."

Prices are from £17,995 for the Turismo 2.0 S model rising to £23,995 for the 2.0 EX.
