Camaro ready to
steal show
AMERICAN muscle car the Chevrolet Camaro will sport what's described as the most significant redesign since the 2006 concept when it makes its debut at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show.
The new Camaro, in both convertible and coupe body style, will feature a low-slung silhouette and Chevy's new MyLink connected radio.
It also boasts improved high-performance aerodynamics that provide more efficient cooling and stability at high speeds.
As for styling, the Camaro's front fascia has a wider lower grille and more narrow upper grille while the bonnet vent helps reduce heat and aerodynamic lift. At the rear, a sculptured deck lid, horizontal lamps and a diffuser complete the fresh design.
Power is supplied by Chevy's 6.2-litre V8 engine mated to a six-speed manual or an automatic transmission with active fuel management.
The manual version produces a massive 432bhp with 0-62mph acceleration of 5.2 seconds for the coupe and 5.4 seconds for the convertible.
Remote keyless entry is standard and on the automatic variant there's the option of remote engine start. And you can get leather power-adjustable Recaro bucket front seats for the coupe.
Other interior highlights include a new colour head-up display and the new Chevrolet MyLink connected radio built around a seven-inch colour touch screen.
Described to journalists in summer 1966 as a "small vicious animal that eats Mustangs", the original Camaro was built around a unibody structure and a featured a 3.9-litre straight six engine.
It has also featured in several Hollywood movies like Runaway Bride (1999), A Walk To Remember (2003) and the Transformers films.
The new Camaro hits UK streets towards the end of the year with prices starting from £35,320 for the coupe and £40,320 for the convertible.
