HYUNDAI has introduced a wide range of enhancements and engine changes for its smaller ix35 urban soft roader.

On sale now with prices starting at £17,000 it is available with two or four wheel drive and the cheapest has a 1.6-litre, 133bhp petrol engine.

The main sellers will be the two diesels - a 113bhp 1.7 with standard stop/start and a new 136bhp 2.0-litre available with manual or automatic gearbox.

This last has lower power than the engine it replaces, to give better economy and lower emissions.

All 1.6 and 1.7 models come with two-wheel-drive, so if you want four-wheel-drive you will have to move up to the 2.0-litre.

Trims have been realigned from S to Premium and S brings a lower entry point than was available before.

Standard equipment even on this base model includes alloys, remote locking, alarm, MP3 and iPod connections, aircon, cooled glovebox, trip computer, hill start assist and downhill brake control.

SE trim, with prices from £18,495, adds bigger alloys, Bluetooth, voice recognition, cruise, front foglights, heated front and rear seats, rear parking sensors, auto dimming rearview mirror and leather covered steering wheel.

Sat nav is available on all SE models for an extra £1,000 and it comes with a rearview parking camera, upgraded sound system and ‘sharkfin' aerial.
