JEEP'S good looking smaller offering, the Compass, has been smartened up and upgraded for the new model year.
Criticisms of the old model included a ride that was a little lumpy - something the American brand says it has improved - road manners and comfort.
Engines are the same 2.0 and 2.4 petrol units, with 154 or 168bhp, and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel with 161bhp.
Sadly, this engine is only available in range-topping Limited spec, which seems a little short-sighted and, while the petrol engines are both available with a new six-speed automatic gearbox, the diesel can only be specified with a manual.
The 2.0-litre petrol comes in two-wheel drive form, while all the others have Jeep's full-time Freedom Drive four-wheel-drive.
This even includes a lock mode for the best traction, so that you are never likely to get stuck in any kind of winter conditions or off-road.
Top Limited models come with a rear parking camera, which is available as an extra on both Sport and North models.
