PEOPLE often say that all cars seem to be the same these days with very few truly standing out from the crowd.

I now have the perfect answer when faced with such tricky theories - the new Peugeot 2008.

This crossover model looks incredibly funky and stylish thanks to its LED daytime running lights, rear lamps featuring claw effect LEDs, 16-inch alloys, chrome door mirrors, dark tinted rear windows, massive panoramic sunroof, stainless steel front and rear scuff plates, roof rails and larger-than-life grille that seems to grin at you as you approach.

And grin it might, because the second you take your seat behind the tiny sports wheel, every journey is guaranteed to be fun-packed.

The cabin is packed with technology and it oozes style and elegance at every turn with neon blue-style LED lights surrounding the instrument dials, a multifunction colour touchscreen, a chunky aviation-inspired handbrake, a refrigerated glovebox, DAB digital radio, CD player, USB connectivity, Bluetooth, dual zone air conditioning and plenty more besides.

This car featured an optional sat-nav upgrade costing an additional £400 along with park assist (£300) which will automatically park the vehicle for you.

The interior of this five-door model is nice and spacious and even back seat passengers have ample room to stretch out with plenty of leg, head and shoulder space.

And luggage options will be high thanks to the 2008's large boot capacity which can be increased further thanks to split-folding rear seats.

There is additional space under the boot floor and another bonus is the low loading sill which makes transporting heavy or awkwardly-shaped items that much easier.

The part-leather seats are nice and comfortable and the driver benefits from good all round visibility.

The small steering wheel is quite unusual but I found I quickly got used to it and after a week-long test I dreaded going back to a larger, more traditional type.

It was lovely and responsive, although I did find no matter how I adjusted my seat or the steering wheel itself, it did obscure some of the information panels on the dashboard.

That aside, the 2008 was brilliant to zip around town in.

Despite its tiny 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol-driven engine, it had plenty of power on tap and can reach 62mph in 13.5 seconds.

It struggled a little on steeper inclines, but coped perfectly with any other scenarios.

The five-speed manual transmission was smooth and responsive and with Peugeot figures claiming the car can achieve combined fuel efficiency of 57.6mpg, it's clear to see why the 2008 is attracting so much attention.

As one would expect, it features a comprehensive range of safety specifications, including anti-lock brakes, electronic stability programme with hill assist, automatic hazard light activation, numerous airbags and lots more.

All in all, the Peugeot 2008 is quite a catch and is a perfect reminder to any doubters that not all cars are the same these days.
