Ford has the Edge on
rivals
FORD'S first large SUV for Europe, the Edge, has made its debut as one of 25 new vehicles the brand will launch over the next five years.
Shown in concept form, the Edge showcases potential technologies, including a push-button and remote-operated parking feature drivers could use from inside or outside the vehicle.
Already popular in the US, the Edge will join the compact new EcoSport SUV - available to order now - and recently launched new Kuga.
Ford executive vice president Stephen Odell said: "The all-new Ford Edge Concept gives consumers in Europe a tantalising glimpse of the upscale Ford SUV experience that's waiting just around the corner.
"We are seeing strong demand for high quality products that confer status, and give a greater sense of freedom and confidence on the road."
Ford projects that between now and 2018 sales of all sports utility vehicles in Europe will increase by 22 per cent, and with higher spec Titanium models currently accounting for 70 per cent of all S‑MAX sales, the company believes the Edge will meet the demand for premium, technologically advanced SUVs.
Meanwhile, Ford's UK market lead continued to strengthen last month with the brand's vehicles accounting for three of the top six November best sellers courtesy of Fiesta in top spot, followed by the Focus in second and the Transit occupying sixth spot.
