JAGUAR is a name that is synonymous with sophistication, elegance, performance and pure unadulterated luxury - the mighty XFR-S is no exception to the rule.

Powered by a 5.0-litre supercharged petrol engine and with a 0-60mph sprint time of just 4.4 seconds, the super streamlined Jag is anything but a pipe and slippers car.

With a top speed that has been electronically limited to 186mph it has more kick than a bad tempered mule and acceleration that, at times, beggars belief.

There is an Eco driving mode to help maximise fuel efficiency and then a Comfort mode to add a little extra zip.

But if you're feeling extra adventurous, the Dynamic mode (suitably indicated by a chequered flag emblem) delivers the espresso kick we all sometimes yearn for.

The acceleration, handling and all-round driving dynamics are incredible and the ride is unbelievably smooth as the car absorbs uneven surfaces and unexpected bumps and dips along the way.

Admittedly, there is a price to pay for such a beautiful all-rounder - two in fact.

Firstly, the price-tag is a whopping £83,350 with almost £3,400 of options. And secondly, trips to the filling station will be frequent as the XFR-S has a combined fuel economy of just 24.4mpg.

That said I was seeing an average in excess of 26mpg on a road trip covering 500 miles of motorways, country lanes and busy town centre driving.

Wherever you go the car is guaranteed to turn heads with its beautiful curvaceous streamlining, black grille, bonnet louvres, quad exhaust tailpipes, red brake calipers, LED daytime running lights, 20-inch alloys and carbon fibre rear spoiler.

Once inside, it's impossible not to be impressed with the quality of materials and abundance of techno treats to be explored.

The soft grain leather sports seats can be adjusted in every direction imaginable and favourite driving positions saved in the three memory settings.

There is mood lighting along with a Meridian high premium sound system that is compatible with all modern media devices plus a heated windscreen with timer function, a seven-inch colour touchscreen, heated seats, sat nav, Bluetooth connectivity and Jaguar R-S badging throughout.

Back seat passengers have ample leg space and comfort levels for all occupants are impressive while the deceptively lengthy boot can easily accommodate all luggage needs.

Jaguar has kitted out the XFR-S with a comprehensive list of safety features such as anti-lock brakes, dynamic stability control, emergency brake assist, blind spot monitoring, intelligent high beam, numerous airbags and plenty more besides.

All in all, the Jaguar XFR-S is supercharged by name and supercharged by nature.

One thing is guaranteed though - if you're behind the wheel of this car you will never experience boredom again.
